The game is a good game. I wanted a back up copy of the game, so I checked out the preview pages of the pdf and all looked good. Too bad the file that I downloaded didn't match the quality of the preview AT ALL. Scan lines and worse on my copy ( I tried to download more than once), but not on the preview. Questionable...

The Exalted game setting is a great universe for those who are fans of Anime, the Matrix Movies and other such super powered settings. I found the dice pool mechanics clunky at first--I started Role-playing with 2nd Ed. D & D in 1980--but have come to appreciate its flexibility; also I have discovered there is more suspense from rolling 20+ dice and counting my successes and a lucky roll absolutely destroying a foe--either in melee or social combat.

I got into the Exalted setting with 2nd. Ed., but decided to get the 1st. Ed. Books because I discovered that some material from the 1st. Ed. has not been converted to 2nd. Ed. stats and I want to be able to use those earlier materials.

I didn't really like Exalted. It was way too complicated to create characters, and to resolve conflicts. What we thought should be a pretty basic fun fight with a PC against stock opponents took about 90 minutes. The book is really dry and feels like it's full of power after power after power.

Exalted is a pretty good system. My group is basically replacing D20 modern with this system (with some modifications). This is so much better than D20 modern...

This game is a great setting to inspire your players and game masters.

I found the combat system to be integrated into a lot of the game, and also fairly complicated to understand (few rules, but their application and timing are precise and very influential), which made for a lot of arguments...

This is an excellent game for those who want to play fantasy but are tired of the standard fair of europeon-medeviel setting. The setting is excellent and reminds me of feudel Japan, elements of the Roman empire, and the religous intrigue of ancient Egypt. Each Exalted faction is explained in great detail in their own books which are just as meaty as the core book. I recommend this game for the more expierenced gamer who is looking for something beyond the current D20 mania. My only complaint is the character sheet shown in the back doesn't hold enough information. But that's minor and shouldn't deter anyone from downloading the free copy while it last. Do it.

This is one of the coolest games I've ever had the pleasure of running. The game is a surprisingly effective mixture of Anime ("You will die for dishonouring my family!") and old fashioned epics ("And then, Achilles hefted a great rock, such as no ten men could lift as men are now, but hefted it easily."), with several doses of White Wolf's dark, moody, oversexed style ("she was wearing a black corset made of HUMAN SOULS"). The line director (Grabowski) pulls the whole strange mix together by tying it to real world moral, mythological, and historical concerns.

Probably the coolest aspect of Exalted is its ability to inspires your own creativity. Post almost any question about Exalted on a webforum, and you'll get 100 different cool suggestions from ordinairy fans. Doesn't have to be a good question - I've seen rules questions generate great plot seeds.

On the downside, you will have rules questions. The core mechanic is very inappropriate to the game, and battles can often be pretty slow and boring. Still, the system does what it should - it just does it slowly. But if you like rolling lots of dice, or you don't run a lot of combat; then this is a fine game. Apart from the system, its A+

I must say that I was quite captured by the idea of grand beings who clashed in furious and epic battles must have appealed to the Role playing battle fan in me. I actually like the flexibility of combat, and the encouragement to make wickedly descriptive attacks to pick up bonuses is a feature that can keep the battles from getting monotonous. If there was a flaw in this aspect of the book, I found it somewhat lacking variety from monsters and weapons, but once again, this is only to encourage the acting storyteller and role players that the designs are clearly up to them. A bit more serious than other RPGs I have played, this one has a definite direction, but not such a strong meta plot that it can really alter gameplay...For only the core rulebook, this covers a lot of ground, and there is no way you can go wrong with a such a solid premise and well thought out game.

This is my favorite RPG ever. The stories are so grand, and I like that there is no metaplot that has to be followed! I can't get enough of this game.
