Vampire: The Wild West is a terrific original era and setting for VTM, covering the gradual and tumultuous expansion of the Kindred into the untamed American frontier. The book gives you everything you need to run chronicles of those vampires brave or foolish enough to wander away from civilization and seek their destiny in the west, complemented by a beautiful and consistent aesthetic design and plenty of gorgeous artwork. I'd recommend this book to anyone interested in historic Vampire settings or in telling stories of boundless opportunism in the face of long odds and desperate isolation. This is an excellent Vampire: The Masquerade book.

Full disclosure: I'm working with the author on an upcoming project, so take of my review what you will.

No joke: Vampire the Wild West is exactly the sort of thing I'm looking for when it comes to books in the Storyteller's Vault. It covers a huge swathe of time, and does a great job of recontextualizing the 13 clans in this new and dangerous world.

That's actually my favorite aspect of this book: if you know anything about America's expansion west, it's basically one of the worst times I could imagine for vampires. Low populations, long stretches of Lupine-infested land, and basically everything working against you. It honestly shouldn't work, but in 150 pages, you're given a ton of context as to a vampire's westward-leaning motivations. And it is insanely dangerous.

There's plenty of crunch and plenty of fluff: if you have any interest whatsoever in setting your Vampire game out west, this is worth a look.

I have been anticipating the release of "Vampire: The Wild West" ever since I heard about it. It is a genre that holds a lot of potential to tell Vampire stories in the World of Darkness that fit the theme and atmosphere that we have come to love from VtM while spicing it up with a setting that popculture is very familiar with. While I agree with other reviews that the focus of the book is very zoomed in on very specific areas of the West (mainly California) I am convinced that it would be impossible to provide detailed setting infos for the whole of North America during the Frontier (and as someone who uses setting books as a starting point and inspiration for his own research, I find it helpful as a guideline while still giving me the creative freedom to fill in the empty spots on the map on my own).

It might be possible that some of the content is already covered in "Werewolf: The Wild West" but as my interest is Vampire and not Werewolf when it comes to playing a character in the World of Darkness, I never even considered buying the setting book for Werewolf. So saying "Werewolf the Wild West" already covers much of what the book provides in regards to the setting should not take away from anything the book offers, especially with the feats and discipline variants etc. it offers to create a true Wild-West Vampire character.

For someone who only consumes the Vampire-focused content of the WoD, this book is a must buy if you are interested in the Frontier as a setting for your games. The historical research is very well done, well intertwined with the canon and lore we already know from other source books and it doesn't shy away from contextualizing the historical period in which it takes place and doesn't justify all the atrocities that happened during that time by going: "it was the evil vampires that did it".

Inhowfar the balancing of the feats and rules given mess with the mechanics of V:20 or not remains to be seen (just as much as with all other supplements for VtM) but from a brief overview it appears to be well thought out.

I cannot answer wether or not this is a good addition to your collection if you already own Werewolf:The Wild West because I frankly do not know, but at least it is everything I hoped it would be and the respectful tone it takes with the setting and the content is something that I appreciate a lot and that is so very much needed for the WoD as a dark/horror setting that contains topics that have to be managed with the utmost care at a table so that everyone is comfortable. The Authors understand their responsibility in that regard and it is visible on every page.

I for one can not wait to create my first gunslinging Lasombra or Brujah and explore the uncharted Wildlands, abandoned Mining Towns and bloodsoaked Salloons that await us on the Frontier.

Vampires have finally came to the Wild West. This book is a well done entry, presenting the Wild West from the Vampire player's point of view. This book in our opinion filled in a huge gap that was missing in the Vampire settings. That being said the book is not perfect. It works best alongside Werewolf the Wyld West... as Vampire the Wild West doesn't give as much detail as much of the west as one might like.

The Tabletop Gaming Club actually loved playing with product. The club members loved the entire concept. We found the adjusted abilities new archetypes, new disciplines and other mechanics worked perfectly for running a game in the wild west. We STRONGLY recommend this product,

I am so glad to finally have a setting in the wild west for the vampires. It shows that the author did a lot of historical research and I like the new elements the book brings, like some new discipline powers. It can be well mixed with the books of the other supernatural creatures like werewolf, making it possible to do a full blown WOD story. Definitely worth buying !

Vampire: The Masquerade has focused predominantly on the distant past or modern nights. I have had many players ask and wonder why no other eras are represented. Werewolf has covered this particular one. But, until now nobody covered it for Vampire. Well wonder and wait no longer. Ian, Adrian, Zack, Rachel, Josh, Ray, and Ryan have done this wonderful thing for us. Thank you guys, and in the words of Bill & Ted "Excellent!" Air Guitar

There isn’t anything in this book that you can’t get by just using Werewolf Wild West and the basic V20 book. Other than the author’s ego and an extensive history of California.

It feels like a Red Hot Chile Peppers song in book form.

The art is good… But from previous WW works so that isn’t massively impressive.

The setting is just… California. The author seems to really like his state but ignores so much of the west where things got really interesting. Texas is a footnote. Arizona is… Tombstone. New Mexico (per the usual) is basically ignored completely. But oh, man. California.

I just expected so much more.
