I'm going to be blunt. I would not recommend this book.

Most of it is copied from 1e Mirrors. While this wouldn't be bad in and of itself, basing it on what it was updated from, it wasn't adapted to 2e. This is evident in it having a multiple action in one turn mastery - something that was removed in 2e. It takes an odd combination of ripping it and not adapting it, yet not ripping enough because skill tricks aren't included, including a reference for 1e. It's entire magic system could basically be summerized as 'see mage'. This is again, somewhat similar to 1e, but it only includes options for Mage, whereas 1e included options for other lines. If you aren't a fan of Mage, I recommend you stay away from it's magic system. Merit masteries are particularly egregious, as they

The integrity replacement needs work as well. The specific crimes aren't a problem - or they wouldn't be, if they weren't breaking points at all levels. It's just that you will always roll for petty things, no matter what. Narcissist who refuses to go grocery shopping for the Karen next door? Breaking point. Lying to save potential hostages? Breaking point.

Overall, I would recommend sticking to the Mirrors, rather than buying this book.

I certainly do not argue with reviewers, but I do feel an obligation to respond to points which do not correctly represent the content of Dark Antiquity. 1. Yes, Chronicles of Darkness (the second edition rules and game lines) removed multiple-actions-in-one-round from most (perhaps all) gamelines. I felt it thematically appropriate for retooling and inclusion. Advanced characters might be capable of a second action. VERY advanced characters might get a third. EXCEEDINGLY advanced characters might go beyond. Precisely 1 out of this book's *dozens* of possible Masteries addresses multiple actions. 2. Dark Antiquity expands upon and updates one section of one chapter of the original Mirrors book (a grand total of 7 and a half pages, to be exact). "World of Dark Fantasy" referred to Skill Tricks (located in a totally unrelated section of Mirrors), but did not reprint appropriate Skill Tricks in the Fantasy Shard. Dark Antiquity follows the same format. As most Skill Tricks are not appropriate for a historical or fantasy setting, Dark Antiquity devotes only a half page to the entire topic of Skill Tricks. 3. Dark Antiquity does not include a "magic system" at all, and the reasoning is discussed throughout the setting descriptions. Mage: The Awakening only needs to be used for precisely 3 optional character Masteries and the optional inclusion of Grimoires...1 out of 5 kinds of Wonders in Dark Antiquity. Dark Antiquity devotes a total of 2 and a half pages to these optional inclusions. The 1st Edition Mirrors Dark Fantasy section devotes one half of one page to the cited "options for other lines," which *also* only consisted of references directing readers to those other gamelines. 4. Each gameline has its own equivalent for or replacement for Integrity. Nearly every gameline explores different methods of Breaking Points and consequences. Concordance is not at all the same thing as Integrity, which is not the same thing as Harmony, Pilgrimage, etc. Concordance is specifically designed to reflect the themes of Ego vs Altruism...Community vs Narcissism. It is not intended to be a sliding scale of "acceptable improprieties." Overall, I would suggest that potential readers consider the reviewer's stated objections and justifications for a 1-Star review account for 5 pages of this book. Some of the reviewer's comments are fair personal opinions, while others were inaccurate representations of the cited sections of Dark Antiquity.

Mirrors: Dark Antiquity is a well done book that brings chronicles of darkness into a fantasy sword and sorcerer feeling setting. It provides new rules, new merits and changes to various templates to make the characters fit more with the setting.

If you are a fan of high fantasy this book is for you. The tabletop gaming club ran a campaign of Dark Antiquities and it was unlike any other chronicle of darkness game we played. Highly recommended.
