A fantastic book containing many (but not all) official rotes from 1st - 3rd edition. It gets 4 stars from me because while the artwork and the job on the book is absolutely amazing, it leaves out the Masters of the Art book that is 3rd edition.

While the Masters of the Art book focuses on Sphere scores of 6+, the translation for Sphere's at 6+ would've made a fantastic 'final chapter' or 'last bit of information'. Adding in the 'Masters of the Art' information would have gained 5 stars from me.

Edit: (Seems I can't directly reply to your statement so will just edit this) There were a few rotes that I had not seen from some of the miscellanious books. I also noticed that many rotes simply noted a page reference and no description what so ever of what the rote did, while other rotes gave full descriptions as well as references for what book they were from.

I'll make a list in my spare time and (probably this weekend) update this post again with Rotes that I've noticed are missing / not in here. I would say easily 90% of them are, but the lack of descriptions would make them a bit more... difficult... to look into.

As it pertains to 'Masters of the Art', there aren't many Rotes in the book. I know and acknowledge that. However I wasn't looking for 'rotes' from Masters of the Art. My above states this: "the translation for Sphere's at 6+ would've made a fantastic 'final chapter' or 'last bit of information' " So like in M20th chapter 10's section where you go into detail of every sphere's 1-5, a good final chapter would've been nice to see the Masters section where they cover the 'Arch-Spheres', aka Translated sphere levels 6-10.

Thanks for the review, but for the record, it DOES include the (very few) rotes from Masters of the Arts. (for instance, Serenity of the Stone and Shed the Years), I believe those are the only two rotes in the book, and it included no rotes for spheres at 6+ (which I would have had to redo anyway, because M20 does not include Spheres at 6+ as existing, and this was updating spheres to M20 rules). Do you have an example of a rote I did not include from it? I will include it in my next update if I missed some.

My favorite White Wolf game of all time! The 20th Anniversary is a FANTASTIC combination of so many of the amazing qualities of the game. They include the core game along with rules for Technocratic mages as well as other 'independents'.

They've taken the time to refine the Sphere's and a way to keep track of Rotes and even explain ways to make more common spells / rotes more refined so players can have a 'specialty' in the game. Artwork is as always beautifully drawn. If you were a fan of Mage: The Ascension in the 90's and early 2000's, you will absolutely love the 20th Anniversary Edition.

Fantastic write-up for M:tA by White Wolf. Focused around Arete 6+ and Sphere's at 6+ and how Mages would theoretically work at that level!

A definite buy if you're looking for higher end power for that game system! Keep in mind it's 3rd edition, and as of currently to my knowledge there is no 20th Anniversary translation. With that in mind, it's -still- a fantastic buy! The pdf has all the pages pristine, crisp, and easy to read, and is definitely worth the cost of getting.
