Love having all the ideas for rotes from every book ever in one place. Really helps give guidance to newbies, as well as veteran players.

Excellent collection of rotes. It's thorough and concise, making it easy to see how expectations have evolved within the system as well as simply providing inspiration for your characters and NPCs to shine.

Wonderful collection of Rotes. The author was exceptionally thorough with this work. Citations are included for each and it makes life so much easier at the table.

A fantastic book containing many (but not all) official rotes from 1st - 3rd edition. It gets 4 stars from me because while the artwork and the job on the book is absolutely amazing, it leaves out the Masters of the Art book that is 3rd edition.

While the Masters of the Art book focuses on Sphere scores of 6+, the translation for Sphere's at 6+ would've made a fantastic 'final chapter' or 'last bit of information'. Adding in the 'Masters of the Art' information would have gained 5 stars from me.

Edit: (Seems I can't directly reply to your statement so will just edit this) There were a few rotes that I had not seen from some of the miscellanious books. I also noticed that many rotes simply noted a page reference and no description what so ever of what the rote did, while other rotes gave full descriptions as well as references for what book they were from.

I'll make a list in my spare time and (probably this weekend) update this post again with Rotes that I've noticed are missing / not in here. I would say easily 90% of them are, but the lack of descriptions would make them a bit more... difficult... to look into.

As it pertains to 'Masters of the Art', there aren't many Rotes in the book. I know and acknowledge that. However I wasn't looking for 'rotes' from Masters of the Art. My above states this: "the translation for Sphere's at 6+ would've made a fantastic 'final chapter' or 'last bit of information' " So like in M20th chapter 10's section where you go into detail of every sphere's 1-5, a good final chapter would've been nice to see the Masters section where they cover the 'Arch-Spheres', aka Translated sphere levels 6-10.

Thanks for the review, but for the record, it DOES include the (very few) rotes from Masters of the Arts. (for instance, Serenity of the Stone and Shed the Years), I believe those are the only two rotes in the book, and it included no rotes for spheres at 6+ (which I would have had to redo anyway, because M20 does not include Spheres at 6+ as existing, and this was updating spheres to M20 rules). Do you have an example of a rote I did not include from it? I will include it in my next update if I missed some.

The Enlightend Grimoire is a well put together reference book, that puts a lot of information in one place. We could say lots of wonderful things about the work, but the bottom line is it just makes it easier to run a Mage campaign.

The Tabletop Gaming Club strongly recommends the Enlightened Grimoire to all mage players

With all of the positive reviews, I was excited to get this book. Unfortunately, I felt a bit disappointed by the content. First, a few nit-picky things. If you are going to charge $15 for a book, make sure someone other than yourself has checked for typographical and layout errors. While the errors I found after just a brief glance are not significant enough to impact use, it does diminish the overall quality of the book.

As for the content itself, a cursory view found some discrepencies between this book and the rules as presented in M20. The author acknowledges the differences between editions, but a bit more time comparing the sphere levels found in How Do You DO That and M20 appears to be needed. The lack of due diligence means that the purchaser is left having to do additional legwork to fix the sphere requirements.

The system presented for learning/creating rotes is unnecessary. The idea of rotes should not require the expediture of xp and M20 makes it clear taht rotes should never cost points to learn. The reason the base system in the book is so simple is because it is not meant to bog down the already complicated rules system in Mage.

Overall, the quality of content and layout is discordant with the price.

Bought this for my game and within a couple hours had dozens of bookmarks and notes. Super usefull and very well designed. The layout of the book is amazing, both in format, and visualy.

This book is worth every cent and I cannot stress enough how useful this has been with my group.

Holy crap. You know how long I've been WAITING for this? I run Mage on a Tabletop level, AND online, and Rotes are the thing I've found my players have the most trouble with. This is an ESSENTIAL compilation for any Mage ST or player really looking to thrive in the game!

This is such a great resource for players new and old. My troupe definitely struggled with figuring out Rotes when we first played, and I know we're going to get a lot of use out of this volume in the future. It's very well-written, organized to make finding anything a snap, and contains a lot of the information I feel is essential to playing a Mage chronicle, but which the corebook didn't have room for.

Definitely worth picking up--comprehensive, clear, and concise, and useful for players/STs with any level of experience!

An amazing book containing all of the rotes in a comprehensive and coherent repartition in smart chapters with meaning and all rotes are sourced back to their og books. Beautifully illustrated, overall great layout, great organization and great ironing of all the rotes into one coherent system! Highly recommended for Mage players in need of a Grimoire. An Enlightened Grimoire, even.
