Mind's Eye Theatre: Vampire The Masquerade
Publisher: By Night Studios
by Paul H. D. B. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 12/19/2013 09:13:05

A very informative, in-depth and informative book. Of all the releases to date of Vampire the Masquerade, this one explains everything with the most complete clarity of them all. What was missing in the 20th Anniversary edition of the genre is covered here, in much broader terms. The explanations of title, their duties, the examples of the various figureheads of all the clans, the sections on history are the book's best highlights. Many of the the disciplines are concise, but very much to the point and easy to understand.

The clanbooks and the other volumes of Havens of the Damned, Children of the Night, Counsel of Primogen, Thaumatergy, Archons and Templars, Ghouls, the Black Hand and the Inquisition hold original data, but others such as the guides to the sect, the core rulebooks of today and yesterday, all lack the exhaustive details that Mind's Eye Theatre: Vampire The Masquerade offers. All together, they have the information, not one of them has it on their own. They are like pieces of the overall puzzle and only once they are all in place, would you find the facts and figures contained in the subject of my review.

Buy this book if you want to dominate the world of darkness, only needing the clanbooks and the situational and political volumes to complement it. Don't purchase it if you are more of a historian, or a collector on the subject of Vampire the Masqeurade and wish to put all the pieces together over time. Either embrace this book as a vampire would his or her victim, or let others seize it and buy the ones that came before. What's contained within the pages of Mind's Eye Theatre: Vampire The Masquerade is heinously well-written and enlightening.

A savior and slayer of the sects and bibles of the Vampire of the World of Darkness. A Goliath that can crush all of them underfoot.

This guide to Pentex will answer all those questions and give readers a better understanding of the machinations of Pentex, its goals and the approaches their subsidiaries take. Combined with the Human pawns section of Book of the Wyrm, Subsidiaries: A Guide To Pentex parts their veil and tells all about the ploys and the screens that Pentex uses in its secret campaign to spread the influence of the Wyrm over.

A fine book to make use of both lies and hidden motive to seize the weaklings or debased human beings and turn them into something terrible, which will make excellent adversaries for the Garou. Get a load of the cover companies of Pentex and give either the protectors of Gaia an enemy to hunt down and destroy, or prey for the corrupted and seduced members of humanity to exploit and pervert.

Umbra (Revised)
Publisher: White Wolf
by Paul H. D. B. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 11/26/2013 07:47:07

The Umbra is well explored and defined in this volume. The different realms and the hierarchy of spirits are explained with a flare for the dramatic and the dark in equal measure. The art combines struggle and sinister transformation to great effect. Strong impressions of the Umbra and the creatures that inhabit it are made. As always, White Wolf was generous enough to dedicate a particular section of the book to storytelling in the Umbra. For the believers in the light and dark secrets of the shadow world alike, this piece of literature will light the way for you to walk in it. Tread with care. There are many delights for good and evil to be had.

Book of the Wyrm (2nd Edition)
Publisher: White Wolf
by Paul H. D. B. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 11/18/2013 14:07:11

An excellent source book for the Wyrm. Included are the history, goals and the affiliations of the Wyrm. It's machinations and allies and enemies in the mortal world are all chronicled for all to read. The illustrations are very impressionable and can help you envision what the Formori and other denizens of the Wyrm would look like.

By this installment if you want to properly understand what the Wyrm is, the influence it wields and the results it creates.

Possessed

by Paul H. D. B. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 11/18/2013 13:52:36

A few more illustrations of what the Formori look like would have made this product better finished, but it's highly engrossing. What the Formori are, their forms, how they fall prey to the banes that possess them and their powers, are all covered in this volume. You'll learn the true nature of the Formori and what they do following their possession. Each of the three forms are well explored and will make for useful material in the right hands.

Starter Kit: Werewolf the Forsaken [BUNDLE]
Publisher: White Wolf
by Paul H. D. B. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 11/18/2013 13:34:54

The products contained within this bundle are all grade A, although the hazy resolution of the front and back covers of the Forsaken Core rulebook spoil the appearance of the book. It could have been high resolution, instead of being highly compressed to fit download requirements. This is a very unfortunate result. However, the book is well presented. The rest of the illustrations and the text are impressive. The maps of Colorado could have been better defined, they have also suffered due to the construction method used, but otherwise, the core rulebook of the Forsaken will arm you with all the tools you need to make your start in the world of writing. The conventions, tribes and the spirit world are all expertly mapped out. The samples for each tribe offer very telling members who will help you decide how to use them and the spirit world comes alive in this book.

The sample characters are inventive and have their places in many fine chronicles of the forsaken. They are well described and the illustrations of them are well made. Get this bundle to build your basic foundation for your Forsaken stories.

Ghouls
Publisher: White Wolf
by Paul H. D. B. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 11/05/2013 16:04:46

The deeper, darker depths of human psychology and craving can be found in this book. The ghoul is a subtle metaphor for the voracious side of humanity that is hidden, but still as much a part of it as the positive one is. A highly reliable supplement for beginnings, who need only purchase the Requiem, a covenant book and one of the clan books to form a solid foundation. Take care to read the proverbs and quotes. They tap into the most profound beliefs and feelings of human beings, using the most inventive of people from this world.

Werewolf: The Forsaken
Publisher: White Wolf
by Paul H. D. B. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 11/05/2013 15:58:43

Werewolf The Apocalypse was a complex RPG that was of the innovator of all that came after it. Every entity, from the Vampire to the faery owe their existence to the ideas that were put to paper back in 1992. The Forsaken is a similar, yet different animal. The concepts of the genre are more or less the same, but they are more condensed. The auspices, fetishes, totems, tribes and packs have survived the transition into this remake very well, while doing away with the breeds, the lost tribes changing breeds and reducing the overall number of tribes, to make the diversity of the werewolves in this universe less prolific and more to the point. The style of writing is as potent as the one used in the predecessor's and for people who want less to assimilate and more straightforward material, Werewolf the Forsaken is ideal.

In terms of content, the Tribes of the Moon can be considered an off-shoot of the Garou Nation. They are less prolific in their organization, but fascinating in their mindsets. Warriors, reformists, territorial guardians, domineering alphas, students of metaphysics, the Uratha have as much to offer as their Garou counterparts. I see the Forsaken line to be something of a case study in the various ways an RPG can be reinvented.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Revised Edition
Publisher: White Wolf
by Paul H. D. B. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 10/27/2013 09:34:47

I don't know why the quality issues of this product were raised. At times, the pages are somewhat slanted, but the text of the book is legible and the artwork is fully intact. At times, yes, the text is somewhat blurred, but this only occurs on the pages where watermark images are set against the background and the words can still be read if you concentrate just a little more. The lack of bookmarks is unfortunate, as they would have made navigation throughout the document easier. A scan of the book with modern equipment and filtering could have eliminated some of the blurs and made certain parts a little smoother, I must admit, but otherwise, the book is well recreated. Readers are advised to zoom in to 150% in order to see the text properly.

In fact, the (3rd) revised edition is in parts better than the 20th anniversary edition. The descriptions of the titles are a little more comprehensive and less condensed than the ones in 20th. At times, I thought the book were too thin. The missing names was a little annoying, given the immense volume of 20th. The 3rd edition, on the other hand fleshes out everyone and everything very extensively. All the parts are well formed and come together to make a very complete whole.

View this book with a reputable reader, such as Foxit and on a big screen, so the document can be given a wide berth and for the most part, you won't be disappointed with this product. You might actually find more to like about it than the current edition, which, by all rights is a fine book, but unfinished in places, which the revised edition would fill in.

Of all the realist RPG books available, this sheds the most light on the Yakuza, the Japanese Mafia, the most dominant group in the underworld of Japan. It brilliantly describes their history, organization, personality types and activities. As a case study, topic for debate or writer's resource, this will answer every possible question about the Yakuza. The size of the book is perfect, too, not too long, not too short.

Shadowrun: Fifth Edition Core Rulebook (Master Index Edition)
Publisher: Catalyst Game Labs
by Paul H. D. B. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 10/14/2013 13:24:50

The look of Shadowrun has never been better. This edition brings a dazzling, techno-punk look to the sinister, globally capitalist Earth of the genre. The aesthetic appeal of the book is one of the things that hooked me when I first saw it. The illustrations are more life like than ever before and create a technical as well as mystical, intrigue.

The history of the Shadowrun universe is absent, but the explanations of what things are and how they work make up for it splendidly. The Fifth edition wonderfully reveals what is needed in order to survive, who is who and what is what. Establishments, rules, regulations, organizations are all beautifully covered in the pages of this book. All the tools to begin writing your Shadowrun chronicles or roleplaying the game are here for the taking.

Shadowrun never fails to impress me. In fact, each and every new edition reinvents the wheel a little and improves the content. There have been no massive leaps since the fourth edition, but the ones that have been made are compelling and engrossing.
