Fit in perfectly with the campaign I am looking to run when I was running out of ideas. I would have liked to see a small blurb of one sentence suggestions on possible directions to take the scenario to help generate ideas on what to do with the NPCs and plot in general.

An excellent idea condensed into a very small package, and useable in just about any Dark Ages Chronicle you can think of. I have rated three rather than four as I don't feel it is a jumpstart as there is some ST intervention required before play. This isn't necessarily a bad thing (I think it is quite good) but it won't be for everyone. I have written a much more detailed review on my site on the following link where I explain that in more detail. https://itsmorethanjustgaming.com/2017/12/10/the-curse-pole-a-storytellers-vault-review/ Given how reasonable the price is and how easy this is to plop into any chronicle I would suggest any ST give serious consideration

Short version: A very nice, flexible, and well-written Jumpstart at a good price that's great for a one-shot or a springboard to something bigger.

  • The NPCs are a highlight here (and some of my personal favorites of all those throughout the various Storyteller Vault Jumpstarts) and I can actually see myself making use of them in the future. I don't normally care much for pre-made NPCs, but I think they lend themselves really well to micro-chronicles and story seeds like these.

  • Surprisingly good atmosphere crammed into a few pages. Really captures that Dark Ages feel, and the seeds presented could work equally well as an occult tale or a political whodunnit.

  • The different options presented for just what is going on and who is responsible offer this particular Jumpstart considerable flexibility. That said, by its very nature, it is written in such a way that one could easily substitute in their own NPCs, locations, or make tweaks to the plot as necessary.

  • Well-priced for what you get. If you enjoy jump-starts, this is certainly worth the money, and if you don't know if they might be for you, this one is definitely a good value to sate your curiosity.
