100 Selkies for Changeling: the Dreaming

ADD TO WISHLIST >

This supplement has 100 briefly described selkies that can be used in a game of Changeling: the Dreaming. In most cases, their court allegiance, and often their seeming, are not described, allowing a Storyteller to configure them as needed. They can be used as random Kithain encountered, or as friends or foes.

This PDF supports Adobe layers and the page backgrounds and images can be disabled to make printing easier.

Here are some sample results:

  • Guriant Cardew: Guriant is a selkie grump who is feeling the weight of Banality on them. They are planning to give up their seal coat, but are struggling to find someone they consider suitable to give it to. The selkie is starting to wonder if they are being too picky in their decision making, but don't want to give the seal coat to someone they do not feel deserves it. Guriant has started quietly asking around among other selkies to see if they know anyone worthy of a seal coat, but are doing this in such a way as to avoid anyone guessing what Guriant is really doing.
  • Hallie Morgan: Hallie is a competitive windsurfer, though some would say that their selkie background gives them a bit of an unfair advantage in this. Of course, few know that Hallie is a selkie, so this doesn't come up. However, although being a selkie might give Hallie an advantage in the water, windsurfing is not the same as swimming, and doing the sport does require a lot of skill and training as well. From Hallie's point of view, competitive windsurfing also gives the selkie the opportunity to travel to a lot of new beaches and visit new waters.
  • Hannelore Kranz: Hannelore is a cockle-picker, something that is rarely seen on an individual basis these days, but the selkie enjoys the work as it keeps them wandering on the beaches, finding cockles that they then sell to local restaurants, food stalls and fishmongers, catch that is still fresh. When no-one is around, Hannelore will often slip into seal form and dive into the ocean; occasionally, people come across a pail of cockles the selkie has picked on the shore but see no-one apparently around that they could belong to. However, Hannelore more often than not puts their cockle-picking gear out of sight, or on a small sandbank in the ocean.
  • Heddwyn Brickell: Heddwyn is a selkie who fishes the seas, or more precisely, they are a crab catcher. Though the selkie loves the sea and gains enjoyment from reaping its bounty, they prefer to do so as a solitary pursuit, and being on a commercial trawler would make that impossible. Similarly, a single fisherman catching fish with rod and line cannot accomplish much on their own, unless there are some truly large fish around. Catching crabs allows Heddwyn to make a living harvesting food from the sea without the annoyance of having others around.
  • Hedra Treglone: Hedra runs a small boat hire business on the coast, not renting anything much larger than a small sailing dinghy, with many customers just hiring basic rowboats or small power boats. The selkie doesn't have anything that would perhaps rent more readily, such as jet skis or fast powerboats, as they dislike the effect those craft have on the tranquillity of the sea. Even though the sea can rarely be described as completely tranquil. Still, the selkie's nature seems to conflict with the idea of promoting the use of such craft.

Like most of the 100 character books put out by Azukial Games, this one is another solid contribution. The book provides short one paragraph entries for each of the 100 characters, providing gamemasters a seed to spark interesting npcs. The Tabl [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
