A collection of common magick Effects for Mage: the Ascension 20th Anniversary Edition!

This book presents the basic Effects for every Sphere rank, updated from earlier editions of Mage to the latest version of the game. Check out the full-sized preview to see the entire Prime Sphere for free!

Earlier editions presented these Effects in the core rules but the latest edition compiled them with more complex rules in How Do You DO That? Now those basic, foundational Effects are presented here on their own, fully explained and rewritten.

The Book of Common Magicks reworks every single basic Effect from every previous edition of the game, expands them with clear rules and advice, covers the Technocratic Spheres as well as those of the Traditions, and adds several concepts and Effects from Mage: the Awakening, converted to Mage: the Ascension rules and added to the appropriate Spheres. This thorough rewrite and expansion of the core foundations of the game's magick system will help beginner and experienced players alike understand how to make the most of Mage's Spheres.

Included as a bonus are one-page Sphere summary sheets, previously released on the Mage Facebook group and included here for free, and a section detailing which sources were used in creating this product.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Mark Hope has been running Mage: the Ascension since it came out, is the co-founder of the Darker Days Radio podcast, and has hosted several other World of Darkness podcasts, including Mage: the Podcast and Midnight Express.

This book is a steal at twice the price and delivers exactly as advertised: a lucid, clear-cut description of the basic building blocks of the Sphere system - no more, no less. For vampires-to-lawnchairs and other advanced applications, see HDYDT ;) [...]

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
