100 Pookas for Changeling: the Dreaming

ADD TO WISHLIST >

This supplement has 100 briefly described pookas that can be used in a game of Changeling: the Dreaming. In most cases, their court allegiance, and often their seeming, are not described, allowing a Storyteller to configure them as needed. They can be used as random Kithain encountered, or as friends or foes.

This PDF supports Adobe layers and the page backgrounds and images can be disabled to make printing easier.

Here are some sample results:

  • Harley Hutchison: Harley is a gossip. An occasionally dangerous one, too. Given that Harley is a pooka, their gossip tends to be extremely convincing and more often than false, though usually with an element of truth blended in to make it sound more plausible. Harley will especially try to find out a person's doubts and insecurities, so that they can gossip to them about things that play on them. The Unseelie pooka has caused more than one incident in their time, when someone they've gossiped to has taken it to be the truth and acted on it.
  • Heath Lewis: Heath is a pooka childling with all that entails. They are a ball of energy spreading trouble in their wake, unable to take anything seriously or settle down for one moment. Their lives are so unbelievable that no-one would ever mistake them for the truth, though occasionally there's an odd bit of truth about changelings and their world sprinkled in, as Heath knows that the ordinary person will just dismiss these as being lies as well; the pooka finds it hilarious to no tell the truth yet still be thought to be lying.
  • Henry Dowey: Henry is a pooka grump that is a master of the prank equivalent of the long con. Not for them to quick fix of humour caused by a cheap gag or prank. Instead, Henry works on pranks that can in some cases take years to unfold as all the elements are slowly put into play. Given that it can take a long time to reach the final outcome of one of these pranks, Henry always has a number of them going on at the same time. They also plan them carefully, and make copious notes to ensure they don't lose track of what prank is at what stage. Sometimes, the pranks feed into each other as well.
  • Hilde Hofland: Hilde makes a habit of making a nuisance of themselves by deliberately mishearing what people say, though this is always portrayed as an accident. This causes problems wherever the pooka happens to be, for they will always act on the mishearing and thus frequently end up damaging things, breaking stuff and otherwise delaying others. All seemingly down to simple misunderstandings. This prank-pulling may be amusing to Hilde and anyone watching, but those involved in them find the pooka anything from irritating to furiously annoying.
  • Hollie Gray: Even for a pooka, Hollie is a compulsive liar, and the Unseelie pooka uses lies in a nasty way. They ensure that everything they say has at least a partial element of truth, because that makes the lies more believable, but the lies they tell are always intended to undermine relationships and cause trouble. There's a trail of destroyed marriages, friendships and business relationships in Hollie's wake, as they've carefully undermined what used to be strong relationships of any type with carefully chosen mistruths and disinformation.

Like most of the 100 character books put out by Azukial Games, this one is another solid contribution. The book provides short one paragraph entries for each of the 100 characters, providing gamemasters a seed to spark interesting npcs.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
