The Autarkis Storyteller

ADD TO WISHLIST >

"You’re only given one little spark of madness. You mustn’t lose it. "- Robin Williams

The Autarkis Storyteller aims to serve two purposes. Much like the implication of its vampiric title, its primary function is to allow Vampire: The Masquerade players of all experience levels to do away with ST entirely, allowing independent play. Whether you have that one character you have been unable to get into a “proper” game or wish to start from scratch but are overwhelmed with the concept of roleplay, this book has a means for you to play Vampire: The Masquerade. Alternatively, its systems provide STs of all levels to run chronicles with little preparation, leaving the session and chronicle to chance, with everyone sitting around the table surprised by the twists and turns that are inevitable with a blend of logic, interpretation and improvisation.

This book contains:

  • Rules for Solo Play for Vampire: The Masquerade Fifth Edition.
  • Altered Character Creation Rules to further customise your Kindred.
  • Mechanics on bringing more improvised shenanigans in regular group sessions.

How viable would this be for creating a cooperative experience? It certainly looks like an intriguing experience and one I'd quite like to share.

Hi Robert!

TAS can absolutely work well with co-op experiences, where you use the material as the ST itself. It was one of its primary uses in fact!

Thank you for the quick reply, I'll check it out as my partner has expressed an interest in trying TTRPG's for the first time but as a cooperative experience.

Admittedly I was considering V20 or W20 as these are my preference but I thought V5 might be a softer introduction.

Looks awesome - But is there a print friendly version? This would burn up a ton of ink cartridges :(

Or will there be a print on demand later?

Ty ty :)

There is not, unfortunately. The ST Vault doesn't allow physical products of community content but you're more than welcome to have your own personal copies made

One thing I want to point out about the Autarkis Storyteller that might be a bit niche but, very useful for me. I'm a pretty visual person and pretty bad at describing the pictures I have in my mind's eye. For the games I've been running for my friends, I've been finding pictures of people and places rather than try to describe them in detail. However, I'm planning to run a 1 on 1 game for my girlfriend who is blind. The ability to roll on some tables to get a reasonable description of any and all characters she may meet is a very big plus from me. Once I've had time to use the rest of the book properly, I'll leave a real review.

Hey there!

Really glad the homebrew is helping you out in your sessions, particularly with the 1 on 1 game with your partner. That wasn't an intentional design choice, but it makes me and Ricarda (the other author) very happy she (your girlfriend) can have fun too via your combined imaginations and the dice rolls. Can't wait to see the full review!

Greetings Vamily!

Let me start by saying that I will be sharing my review of this here tomorrow. In the spirit of The Lore by Night Guy I can go ahead and give it a 4 fangs out 5. Beyond that I will save the rest of my comments on content and such for my review tomorrow. Jack, thank you for your hard work on this project and for your Podcast! I have been running Vampire since just after it released and Your podcast has been indispensable for helping new players at my table learn and fall under the Blood Bond that this game can create with good storytelling and playing. Thanks again. Review coming tomorrow.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
