100 Redcaps for Changeling: the Dreaming

ADD TO WISHLIST >

This supplement has 100 briefly described redcaps that can be used in a game of Changeling: the Dreaming. In most cases, their court allegiance, and often their seeming, are not described, allowing a Storyteller to configure them as needed. They can be used as random Kithain encountered, or as friends or foes.

This PDF supports Adobe layers and the page backgrounds and images can be disabled to make printing easier.

Here are some sample results:

  • Harper O'Colman: Harper is a redcap gourmet, always willing to try, or create, new dishes. Given a redcap's ability to eat anything, many of the things that Harper tries would not be considered food by anyone. Some of the ones that would definitely be classed as food would cause revulsion in others; there aren't many people who consider Hannibal to be a cooking show. Harper is also willing to have others try their creations, and most who have encountered Harper's "food" will quickly advise non-redcaps to not try it at all. Some of it is definitely toxic to others.
  • Harris Thomas: Harris lives for the fight, the splash of blood and the crunch of bone beneath fist. They love it so much that they will pick fights for no apparent reason and don't seem to care whether or not they win. Not that they often lose, for Harris simply never, ever gives up; they will keep fighting past the point where anyone else would have admitted defeat. They don't fight for the reasons that a clurichaun might, though; this isn't a way of gaining friends and clearing the air but a way of satiating their blood lust.
  • Henry Gray: Henry considers themselves a protector of their neighbourhood, and will protect its residents against outsiders. Whether they want protecting or not; there is a fee. And Henry and their corby will make sure it's paid. Most do pay the fee, for it does result in protection, and of a superior nature to that provided by the police in a rundown neighbourhood. It's certainly better than what happens if the fee is not paid. Failure to pay this protection racket can result in the disappearances of limbs, and sometimes entire bodies.
  • Horas MacThorcaill: Horas works in a slaughterhouse, a job the redcap loves, though the other employees find that Horas is a little too enthusiastic when it comes to killing animals for their taste. And has too great a liking for the blood that is a necessary by-product. And has a disturbing habit of eying up their fellow employees as if wondering what it would be like to slaughter them, too. Not that anyone is willing to antagonise Horas too much; mostly out of fear that the redcap really is considering slaughtering them and if annoyed will go and do so.
  • Isla Cox: Isla, like many redcaps, went truly wild in their wilder years, but were successfully contained by the rest of Kithain society. Rather than accept this as a done deed, anger over being restrained has festered inside Isla, and as a grump they have a true hatred for everyone else, bar a few similar redcaps. No-one will willingly go and see Isla, for that is just asking to be eaten, and if the redcap actually did go out and about, they would be knocked down again by the other Kithain. So, they just remain at home, brooding and hating.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
