Excellent book, but for the pricce differential I'd recommend buying the physical copy.

I bought this during the presale on Renegades own shop, so at least I had the pdf included with the hardcopy for a too high price.

Nothing in this book is really useful. Pages full of statblocks about supersoldiers and weapons, barely useful information about the structure of the inquistion, no details about their biggest success - the destruction of the chantry in Vienna (because that operation was too much "outside the standart operating procedure")

I want to like V5. But after the shitty Sabbat book, this turd and the H5 book - which does not include the Inbued, but who was interested in those anyway? - plus Renegade's price policy and their communication - heard anything about W5 recently? - makes it very easy for me to bury the entire IP.

I don't know if you have read the other Books but it is stated that the Assamites were responsible to destroy Vienna's Chantry, and not the Inquisition.

I don't know if you read the books, here are some quotes:

V5 Corebook, pg 94: "[...]After the Second Inquisition destroyed the Prime Chantry in Vienna in 2008,[...]"
V5 Corebook, pg 361: "[...]A coordinated USSOCOM and Vatican ESOG force augmented with experienced Brazilian hunter-killer teams annihilated the Chantry, destroying it with drone strikes and relic-reinforced ground operations.[...]"

In addition to those, there are some in this book:
pg 37: "[...]“Second Inquisition” calls to mind intelligence analysts and UTR teams, Havens burned and allies murdered, the Fall of London and the destruction of the Vienna Chantry.[...]"
pg 78: "[...]These aircraft seldom appear over Western cities, but as Vienna demonstrated, “seldom” doesn’t mean “never.”[...]"
pg 101: "[...]This chapter can’t cover major operations like the storming of the Vienna Chantry: those depart from any standard operating procedure.[...]...See more

I have the hard copy. It offers a lot of stat blocks and some background motivational material for the Second Inquisition. I don't find it to be *extremely* valuable to running the Second Inquisition as antagonists, however. It's fine, but you can easily do without it if you've some idea how to portray government spooks and rogue covert ops.

Like with the Sabbat book, I can't fathom a US$32 price for a pdf of Second Inquisition. It costs a substantial fraction of a hardcover copy for a modest supplement of YMMV material. The previous publishers of V5 material provided PDFs with retail print copies. Chaosium and Arc Dream for example also do this with Call of Cthulhu and Delta Green respectively — Arc Dream only requires proof of purchase. None of these companies price(d) pdfs as high as Renegade either.

I wouldn't recommend purchasing this pdf for more than US$20.

I find that fascinating. When I read the basic rulebook, I found the idea of the Second Inquisition very exciting and I was really looking forward to a sourcebook for it. Only now there doesn't seem to be anything in the book that I really need. Our campaign is set in France, so I was hoping for detailed information about the Second Inquisition in France (Calcédoine program, purge of Marseille, etc.). But there doesn't seem to be anything about that in the book. In general, I would have expected detailed information about the actions of the European authorities and also gladly of other countries. How are the organizations structured, who knows about vampires, who leads the organizations? How do they operate? I mean, it's a sourcebook about the Second Inquisition. So tell us something about it!
Instead, I only get information about American super agents and super soldiers. Great! I don't need an America first sourcebook. So, no thanks, Renegade! I'll pass!

What is even weirder is that the core books make a huge point of mentioning Vienna and London and such, and yet it's barely (if at all) covered in this book. I'd expect stuff on the Vatican and at least what the 2nd Inquisition is doing in the Middle East, since the Middle East is THE vampire hot spot. Yet all they cover is about 15 pages of actual back information and the rest of this minuscule, over-priced pamphlet (it's not big enough to be called a book) is antagonist stuff.

I would have expected that too, but I didn't know if that might have been covered in the Sabbat book.

With the current quality and the rather low sales of Sabbat and Second Inquisition, I'll just wait until the books are no longer made by Achilli and Renegade. The Hunter basic rulebook is officially out and there is no pdf on drivethrurpg and here in Germany no dealer offers it yet and that means no one asked for it either. I don't know how it is in the rest of Europe.

This is ridiculous for the amount of money this costs. Definitely not purchasing this until it drops in price.

This must be a joke. With inflation being what it is?

Can someone—anyone—explain to me why the last few V5 books have offered such a tiny amount of content for such a weirdly extortionary amount of money?

I know it sounds like I’m trolling, but I’d honestly be interested to hear the rationale. I can’t imagine that the folks willing to shell out so high an asking price make up for the numerous potential purchasers who *won’t* be dropping $31 U.S. on a rather scanty PDF, but then I never did understand the economics of the tabletop game industry.

It's not just you. The lack of understanding of tabletop game industry economics isn't why this looks so off to you.

Renegade Games has their head fully up their own asses with the idea that they can offer very little and charge way to damned much for it. I'd be hesitant to pay this much for the hard copy yet alone a PDF.

Company Decisions like this are a driving factor behind why people pirate this stuff.

I was really thinking about to buy. But nearly 30 Euros are much heavy on a digital only.

I am not paying 30 bucks for a 140 page pdf, that is insane. Like I was interested in buying this product, but that is just too excessive in my opinion.

$31.50? For 140 pages? After the disaster that was Sabbat, I'm likely going to wait for a sale.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
