V5: The Embrace

This product introduces a new step of character creation in Vampire the Masquerade: 5th Edition - The Embrace. Each player chooses the type of the Embrace that their character underwent, using that knowledge to inform their roleplay of undeath and their relationship with their sire. The choice of Embrace Type can be purely for story reasons or it can have mechanical benefits and drawbacks; each Embrace Type grants certain Merits and Flaws.

In addition to the 21 Embrace Types described, this product contains systems for performing and surviving the Embrace, giving players a mechanical structure for creating their own childer.

Accident. Your Embrace was a complete accident - your sire never intended you to become a vampire.

Best Friends Forever. You were a mortal with a vampire BFF who wanted to spend eternity with you.

Brood. Your sire Embraced freely, gathering you as part of a brood of childer.

Coerced. You forced your sire to Embrace you, kidnapping, blackmailing, or manipulating them

Collection. Your sire chose you for your beauty, talent, or some other quality and added you to their gallery.

Empowerment. Your sire wanted you to be able to defend yourself against a world full of undead monsters.

Experiment. Someone - perhaps you - performed your Embrace as part of an experiment of the powers of Blood.

Made to Order. It's simple - your sire made you to eat, like a mortal prepares a meal.

Mystery. You don't remember your Embrace or know who your sire may be.

Possession. Your sire wanted to claim you as their own - down to your very veins.

Random. There was no rhyme or reason to your Embrace - you were simply plucked at random from the mortal throng.

Recruit. You were Embraced to serve as a new member of a sect, a coterie, or to further your sire's personal goals.

Rescue. Your Embrace was performed to save you from death.

Revenge. The Curse of Caine was laid on you as a punishment.

Reward. Your long service as a ghoul or as a useful mortal tool was rewarded with vampirism.

Romance. You and your sire were in love - or as close an approximation of it of which your sire was capable, at least.

Sacrifice. A mortal cult offered you as sacrifice to your sire's hunger or someone paid their debts to your sire by offering your life.

Scourge. You were created and deployed to Frenzy and murder your sire's mortal enemies.

Shovelhead. The Sabbat drained you, Embraced you, and buried you in a shallow grave to act as their cannon fodder.

Stolen Childe. Someone else wanted to Embrace you, but your sire got there first just to spite them.

Timeless Pursuit. You were Embraced to grant you eternity to pursue some lofty goal.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
