Spirits are inhuman, alien creatures. Even those mirroring human concepts and emotions take those ideals to hyper focused extremes, turning something like love into a horrid obsession at the expense of everything else, or charity into a suicidal martyrdom. Few of these ephemeral beings can think in human terms, or plan things out in the long term to temper the hunger for those concepts they reflect.
Some, however, grow a bit closer to humanity than is normal. These are familials, spirits who have grown particularly complex through their connection to humanity (or human-like supernatural creatures).
Familials provides rules for playing these spirits, allowing for players to take control of spirit characters, whether for a Chronicle focused around a choir of spirits alone, or a mixed group of spirits, shapeshifters, magic users, or otherwise.
