Strange Yesterdays: Alternatives to the Revised Metaplot

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Metaplot is a Start Not the End

The World of Darkness radically changed between Second Edition Mage: the Ascension and Revised Mage the Ascension. Reality is rocked by the rise of an Antediluvian, the Sixth Great Maelstrom, the Fall of Horizon, Doissetep, and the Digital Web, and an Ascension War shorn of its biggest movers and shakers.

But There Are 10,000 Other Cataclysms

But what if that’s not how it happened? What if instead of Zapathasura waking, a space station crashed to earth, showing the might and folley of the Technocracy? What if instead of the Hermetics declaring war on the Tremere, the Euthanatoi declared war on the Giovanni? Strange Yesterdays provides alternatives for many of the main events of the late Second Edition and Revised Metaplot as well as rumors and variants of the existing events.

This book contains variants and alternatives for each major event up to the Second Massasa War including the 6th Great Maelstrom, the rise of Zapathasura, the Avatar Storm, the fall of Doissetep, the Concordia War, the appearance of Mirzaba, and the crashing (possibly twice) of the Digital Web.

Also included is a hyperlinked glossary referencing both books and webpages with further information. This book considers alternatives from across the lines of the World of Darkness and lets you include and exclude supernatural types to fit your table.

I purchased Ascension's Landscape, but I have not been able to find a "discount code". All I seem to be able to do is end up with a "discounted" copy of Strange Yesterdays in my cart. This is not the same as a "complimentary" or "free" copy. What's up?
Thanks, Don

Okay, I was able to get it, but it was a bizarre process that involved my whole order from DTRP being duplicated at Storyteller's Vault, with ST being 4.99 one site and free on the other, and forcing a password change in the process. All's well that ends well.

Some feedback: on page 28, you speak of Orpheus providing a way for people to enter the Underworld. It didn't, for most of the line: it took place either on Earth or in the Death realm's "Penumbra", the Shadowlands, which exist on this side of the Shroud. The presumption made by Orpheus was that the 6GM raged on within the Shroud, turning it into an impassable Stormwall until the events of the last book in Orpheus alllowed the protagonists of the game to breach the Stormwall and investigate the ruins of the Underworld.

Thanks! By my understanding the Underworld includes the Vidare Mortuum (Low Penumbra), Tempest, Labyrinth, Abyss and Oblivion. Do you consider/does Orpheus consider the Low Penumbra separate from the Underworld rather than just another region in it? Is there a better term for 'waves hand in circular motion' everything that has to do with the Dark Umbrae?

The Afterlife.

My thoughts on visiting the Afterlife: Dead Magic II has a Life 2/Mind 4 Effect called "Going Under the Cloak" that lets you astral project into the Shadowlands. I would use that instead of Spirit 3. Also, a near-death experience is not like dreaming your way into the Maya in one crucial way: you need to be nearly dead to do it. The idea of dying in the Afterlife during a near-death experience and waking up in your body while suffering a point of aggravated damage feels wrong to me, as you were already on the brink of death; that extra point of aggravated damage should kill you. I'd just say that you die if you're killed in the Afterlife. That's what happens to Skimmers in Orpheus.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
