The Sword of Caine: A V5 Guide to the Sabbat

The Gehenna War Calls

The Sword of Caine has often been viewed by the Camarilla as monstrous beasts that live only to diablerize and destroy. Like all good antagonists, there is another side to the Sabbat. While they harbor murderers and diablerists of all types, they are, at their core, a spiritual sect on a Holy War against ancient beings of terrible power and unfathomable agendas.

In this book, the Sabbat are laid bare. From a breakdown of the sect’s history and hierarchy to their current state as a lean, honed weapon against the tools of the ancients, everything you need to play Sabbat in Vampire: the Masquerade 5th Edition is here.

It’s time you joined the War.

This book contains:

  • An alternative history and Reformation of the Sabbat in modern nights.
  • New rules for Paths of Enlightenment and descriptions of 12 different Paths—Six active in the Sabbat and six fallen into obscurity.
  • Alternate rules for Tzimisce and Salubri Antitribu
  • A New Tremere House of Antitribu
  • New Ritae, Blood Sorcery Rituals, Backgrounds, Predator Types, Clan and Faction-specific Loresheets
  • Custom Character Sheets from Chris “Mr. Gone” Leland

What does this Sabbat Book offer that others do not? I see that there is currently three big ones (The Black Hand by Judd - Kheil & Liddick, Guide Sabbat by Haller & Soldatovic, and then The Sword of Caine by Jenkins).

Could you explain what yours does differently and why one should purchase this one instead of the others? Of course it would be ideal to purchase all three and sample all of them but my gaming groups budget does not allow for this.

Well, the first and foremost difference between the Sword of Caine and the other STV Sabbat offerings is that the other two books work with the recent Sabbat book release: Sabbat: the Black Hand. This book does not utilize anything within that book.

From a writing standpoint, I took the previous editions of Sabbat material and what we received in glimpses of the new reality on the ground from the V5 corebook and the Camarilla book and crafted this book around "what could have happened to make the Sabbat work the way it has been suggested but while also remaining true to what has come before?" The result was this book.

We take the history of the Sabbat and offer an explanation for the sudden shift in operations and theater of war. While the Sabbat: The Black Hand rewrites large swathes of the Sect's history (for example, the lack of belief in clan identities which played a huge part in previous editions) and re-imagines the Sabbat in a new way (and, in some cases, reminiscent...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
