Evil Incorporated: 10 Pentex Subsidiaries

A Thousand Mouths, and a Bottomless Stomach

Pentex is not, strictly speaking, a company. Pentex is a huge network of interlinked companies that are joined together through both formal and informal networks, bent toward similar goals. There is no stock market entry for "Pentex" used by traders, and it isn't a single conglomerate one can buy stock in, or get a job working for. Rather, it is a hydra made of capitalism. It bears a thousand names, and every time someone manages to shut one connected company down, it seems like two more rise to take its place before the market opens on the next business day.

The central theme of Pentex as an antagonist is that it is what happens when greed, exploitation and "infinite" growth lead to corruption of mankind's heart and soul. Whether it's energy companies dumping toxic wastes into drinking water in search of more profits, slum lords squeezing the disenfranchised for every penny they can get out of them, or laboratory experiments creating legions of horrible monsters while testing their latest concoctions, the various firms and companies that make up the conglomeration that is Pentex will do anything in their pursuit of power and profits... no matter who gets hurt along the way. Sometimes Pentex is extreme, including elements like dark web arms deals, experimental drugs, vampire CEOs and a variety of other outlandish scenarios. Other times, though, Pentex is banal, just filling out paperwork and processing tasks on the assembly line to the apocalypse.

For Storytellers who want to introduce Pentex as an overarching antagonist in their World of Darkness games, the following subsidiaries can all be used to drive plot, and to bring players more deeply into the mega-conglomerate's orbit. And remember, even if your players utterly defeat these firms, they are just one, small, fraction of the beast that is Pentex. So let your players have their victories, because there will always be more corporate dragons to slay tomorrow.

For a small book, this is full of ideas for villains that could keep a werewolf pack (or even a vampire coterie) busy for some time. Alll are very modern takes on capitalists being capitalists, but with an appropriate World of Darkness edge of excess [...]

The subsidiaries presented in the book are very good examples of mundane capitalists excess amplified by the Wyrm and the evil they represent can be adapted to suit the tastes of any game group. Each entry follows this pattern: A brief descrip [...]

It's no surprise that Neal Litherland knocks out a fantastic supplement on Pentex in this tome: dripping with plot-hooks, conspiracies, dark money, greasy Wyrm-taint, and plenty of absolutely unrepentant bastards to eviscerate with the righteous fury [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
