Vampire, Twentieth Anniversary Edition: The Classical Age

The world of AD 62 is completely new for vampires. There has never been so much organization, but there has never been so much belief. Mortals know that supernatural creatures can exist and any misstep will surely cause the death of vampires. The clans cannot reach a multiple agreement and the fight is far from over. Nero's madness is just beginning, as his recent discovery of Cain's descendants has only put to the test that even great elders can fall. You have to act fast, before the circus catches fire.

The War of Clans has never been more present. On the one hand, Ventrue, Toreador and Malkaviano are united looking to maintain their power on Rome. On the other hand, the Brujah clan is struggling to regain its lost status after the fall of Carthage. Gangrel work hard to keep Roman troops occupied while members of the Ravnos clan infiltrate deadly diplomacy in order to delay the triad's efforts. Lasombra exploit as much as they can in the eastern region of Rome, taking advantage of Ventrue's lack of dominance and the chaos caused by the endless Tzimisce wars. The Salubri work to control a great plague that has been plaguing the empire, the fruit of Baali's remnants of Carthage. Meanwhile, the Death clan protects Christians from religious persecution, employed by Rome. Haqim's absence forced the Assamite clan to move and a search for the clan's honor is just beginning. Not everything is what it seems, because among the most religious, the Followers of Set still remain in the shadows influencing weak minds. This conflict could not be the same if it were not for the Nosferatu, involving their networks to gain space within civilization.

Vampire, 20th Anniversary Edition: The Classical Age is a game of political and supernatural narrative of vampires, enveloped in a world of darkness capable of bringing hopelessness and disappointment to even the most courageous.

This scenario brings the following news:

  • They feature the 13 Families and 9 bloodlines, expanding the classic world.
  • Contains the story of the vampire families, with different views and versions of the story. Each, detailed in a different way.
  • New qualities, background, characteristics, blood spells, a new system of Disciplines and how to create and adapt new Disciplines and rituals.
  • New rules, scenario details and plot based on the history of the Roman Empire were created, bringing even more depth to every single aspect of the vampire scene.

On the case of the Strixes and their disciplines. The book says Dementia or Auspex, Blood Magic or Striga and Animalism. I cant find Dementia nor Striga. Where those are?

Greek Gangrels Disciplines are Animalism or Speed, Obfuscation and Metamorphosis. I assume Speed is Celerity just a translation error. But what is Metamorphosis?

Kiasyd says the the Epidius family prioritize Domination, Darkness or Potency and Mytherceria. What is Darkness?

Dementia is Dementation
Metamorphosis is Protean
Darkness is Obtenebration
Striga is Striga, it's in Dark Ages Companion (infernalist discipline)

First, great work! Hopefully will be running a game in the antiquity with this. Would be nice to have a look at what our DA characters Sires were up to then. :)

I've just skimmed through and there is a need for some editorial work as there are quite a few words not translated yet (e.g. bairristas p37). Similarly some of the sentences can be quite jarring, "It is like a trader who wants to become a patrician" is just not right. You would probably say: Such as a trader who would like to become a patrician. Or something like that... (English is not my first language either :) )

Anyway, good work, keep it up!
And please keep updating it!

Blown away by the quality! i cant wait to sink my teeth into it

two questions tho! there are two versions available, a Digital and a Print version, what is the difference? what do you recommend using?
and i see you are producing a Carthago by night book, will Troile be a NPC in it? i cant wait for it regardless!

For PDF, i'd recommend the Digital because it's faster than the print version. The file is in lower quality than the printer-friendly version. So, it opens faster! About Carthage, YES! TROILE IS THERE! And a bunch of important figures of WoD scenery.

Yes, they will have new updates. The break was due to the holidays (Christmas, New Year) and because I could take advantage of this free time and produce new supplements. Note: Cartago By Night is in production.

Hi Chrystian! I've just received your manual as christmas gift and can't wait to start a chronicle! We play usually dark ages but set an adventure during the imperial age of Rome (and yes, since i'm italian is an "easy" choice) with something new to manage (i like the idea of philosofy!) will be wonderful! Do you have yet planned something to add?

Yes. I'm planning to create new supplements to Classical Era. Maybe in January/2021 or February/2021, i should launch one By Night scenery.

Hi Chrystian, I'm just getting started in my adventure with Vampire The Masquerade and before I make any mistakes I was hoping you could give me a little advise. I guess first and foremost I wanted to know if I was starting in the right place with this game? I did download the Quickstart guide and will be starting that after the holidays. Is there anything else I need to know or can I go ahead and make the leap into the Twentieth Anniversary Edition? I would really appreciate any feedback.

Have a great holiday, Amy

Chrystian,

I wanted to ask you a couple of questions: First, I noticed you said there would be weekly updates for a while. Is this something that I need to pay for as they come out (I'm more than willing to, I just need to know how to get the updates!) Also, I wanted to talk to you about potentially collaborating on making a wiki for this if you're open to it? I know how to make wiki pages and code them, and I would love to work on that with you!

Hello, Tyrissa!

No. You don't have to pay for it. You only pay it once. Also, when you buy, the Storytellers Vault warn you about the updates I post of the book in your library
Second, yes! I would love to see this book in the Wiki! Do you have any other form of contact?

Chrystian,

First let me say thank you for having this translated into English and devoting the time to quality control said translation, it has made it easier for me instead of trying to bungle through on the other copy. Even the weird linguistic hiccups between the two languages post translation are easier to parse out for me.

Second I would like to repeating something I've been sort of gushing to my players when I bring this up: The formatting and quality of content (barring translation issues), if I did not see the Storyteller's Vault Imprint I feel like this would fit seamlessly with the other core rulebooks for product lines. This is top notch and I felt like I received my money's worth on the initial release and each refinement of translation is a win more.

With those two things stated I do have a couple of questions/requests/suggestions/corrections:

•Question: When would you like an actual review of this product? I did not think it was fair to give...See more

Hey, Jay! Glad to read your comment. And hope you're liking the book! At least, it seems that you're really liking it.

1. I think that you can make a review of the book already. There is no problem. I know about the book grammar errors, but you can update your review later. Even, you can also only review the book content instead the grammar. Do it the day you most feel comfortable.

2. Thank you for your suggestion! I'm already improving the bookmarks. Other purchasers already told me about it.

3. The Strix bloodline has this "strange" configuration, yes. Because of the Embrace by a Malkavian, they can have Dementation or Auspex. The Blood Magic comes because of their creator, who adapted most of her knowledge to vampire Occultism. Yet about their Blood Magic, i'm going to introduce Striga in new supplements, now as a "Dark Blood Sorcery" or "Infernal Blood Sorcery" and some members of the Strixes were corrupted, so they can have Striga. The...See more

I kind of like the translation issues in a way: it very much gives me the feel of being a young vampire just inducted into the world of the Roman Kindred, and being spoken to in a language I don't fully know fluently.

Seeing words like "Hugging" in place of "Embrace" makes me feel like I'm searching for context - that the fault isn't with the speaker, but with my own knowledge.

I definitely hope the translation is tightened up, but I really like those little idiosyncracies - it enhanced my enjoyment of the text!

This book has some great ideas and a huge amount of content. It is also very beautiful and well laid out. This English translation still needs a lot of work though. It makes me wish I knew Portuguese so I could read the original. There are parts that still aren't translated and cases where some words have an incorrect translation. In addition to these problems and many grammatical errors, some sentences that are mostly grammatically correct don't really have a coherent meaning.

The author seems to still be working on the translation. If the translation gets properly finished, this will be one of the best books for V20. Even with its translation issues, it is still worth its price.

I really like the Strix bloodline of witches. It fills a lot of the void the left by the fact the Tremere don't yet exist in this era. However, they are quite different from the Tremere and I think they could also work quite well in later eras.

I do wish the Fae described in this book were...See more

Just wondering: I noticed a lack of a Filmography/Bibliography in the Contents section. Sure, films before Ridely Scott's "Gladiator" were *very* sanitized depictions of the ugly reality, but surely at least "Spartacus" and/or "Ben Hur" warrants a listing as references for the Majesty of a fictitious Ancient Rome. :)

Yes. This product is written for Vampire the Masquerade (specifically the 4th Edition/ 20th Anniversary edition of that line).
However, this product is very reminiscent of Requiem For Rome the Vampire The Requiem Product.

This has the opportunity to be as great for VtM as RfR was for VtR with a couple more editing passes and some more time devoted to translation.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
