Beyond the Hedge

ADD TO WISHLIST >
The Lost emerge from maddened Arcadia not wholly human; composed of raw elements and even stranger stuff, they are all also deeply emotional. Divided into Courts that correspond with seasons as well as emotions, they learn to harvest Glamour from mortals. But they are not limited to just fueling their Contracts and powering their Tokens; emotions can be used to work magic similar to that found within the Hedge and beyond. Any changeling brave, or desperate, enough can attempt to call upon her emotional connections of her Court to channel Glamour into magic both wondrous and dangerous.

Inside you’ll find these features for Changeling: The Lost, 2nd ed.:

• An optional system of channeling emotions to perform magical feats.
• Five new kiths including the predatory Lamia and the haggling Jinn.
• Contracts, both revised and new, to add more options for changelings of all Courts and Seemings.

On page 10, you have "Difficulty varies between 6 and 10," in the descriptor, but CofD does not use Difficulty. Did you mean a dice modifier of between -1 and -5 depending on the desired effect?

I was intending for it to be an expansion of the general success rules of an 8, 9 or 10. Meaning, for very simple or easy uses of an emotion, a roll of 6 or 7 might also be counted as a success. But I do see where it might be confusing as written, I'll get back to it and see what I can do to clarify. Thank you for the feedback, very much appreciated!

Ah. Yeah, most CofD stuff never changes the target number. The basic idea is that you use dice modifiers, or dice tricks (9again, loss of 10-again, etc).

On another note, if you'd have any interest, I'd be willing to go through and do a full editing critique on it, mechanically and whatnot, and even some reformatting if you'd like, for a small percent of any further sales after that. If not, that's fine, but wanted to put it out there.

Hi, just started reading (love it so far) but on page 24 under success for Envoy's Splendid Defense it says "four-dot version of the Striking Looks Merit." In CoD this Merit is only one or two dots. Also, Lamias can buy Striking Looks for half price, but there is no half price for the level one Merit in CoD. Possibly they get level one Striking Looks for free instead?

I am embarrassed I didn't even catch that, but thank you so much for finding it. I have made the corrections and a new version will be uploaded shortly to the Vault! Hope you enjoy it!

Could you set the preview to include at least the ToC?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
