Kitsune

ADD TO WISHLIST >

It always struck me as strange that the Kitsune were included as an aspect of Werewolf the Apocalypse. They seemed to be so much more than mere werecreatures. Their connection to humanity always spoke to me as more of dreams than Rage. This text is my effort to bring them fully into the ranks of the Dreaming. I truly hope you enjoy my depiction of them, which was drawn from research and pop cultural references. Any inaccuracies are truly at the fault of the author. Enjoy and keep your dreams alive!

The PDF includes a traditional writeup for a kith, as well as details for their Thallian coiunterparts the Yako and a merit for those particulary wise Kitsune at your tables!

Have you considered writeups like this for other potential Eastern Kiths, like Tengu and Oni? I'm aware that Tengu are officially handled as wereravens; but I think the same rationale applies to them being a Kith as with the Kitsune being a Kith rather than werefoxes.

hello! I hadn't yet tbh! I'm still not sure it is 100% my thing to create, Kitsune happened in a bit of a "fever dream" but who knows what the future might hold! Thanks for the comment and idea though. Enjoy Kitsune!

I believe that if you want to join them to the set of Changelings you would have to be based on the book Land of Million Dreams and not beings of dreaming, because in the Middle Kingdom Dreaming is practically uninhabited when compared to the various societies of dreaming in the West. I don't agree with Kitsune being a Kith, but if it's Kwannon-jin it can be really cool.

Thanks for the feedback! I had considered that at first. But, I then thought about the Eshu being part of the kithain or even the multitude of kiths from all around the word
being presented in the new players guide for c20 and felt that them being beings of glamour and banality was a better choice in the long run.

The problem lies in the fact that there are no changelings societies in the Middle Kingdom, Dreaming is something disregarded by many, even by Hsien themselves except those who use the place to predict the future. So ... how did kitsune go through the ages if they were always isolated? After all, there is no kith in the Middle Kingdom, and the Hsien are not dreaming beings and possess their own society and duties. That is, it drastically changes the lore of everything ... But congratulations, it is something creative, but I still believe that it would be better not to be Kith but Kwannon-jin.

I feel that can be a problem to deal with. After all, I personally like the idea that the Land of 8 Million Dreams isn't a focus with the Kith. It's nice to be able to interact with the Dreaming and the cultural elements of my own culture without having to play separate from the rest of Changeling society or the player base. Even if its canon, it'd be cool to see more Kiths in Asia and have more interactions with the Dreaming in a culturally sensitive way. I'd love to have Hoping Vampire like Kiths or Draconic Kiths or even some kind of cool book that details other Kiths in Asia like the Monkey King would make a great Pooka with a Treasure Staff he stole from a water dragon.

Land of 8 Million Dreams is cool, but too off the Changeling mechanics. I'll hoped that this Kitsune was a Hsien, but i have understaood that its a Kithain, so unplayable in the Land of 8 Million Dreams. This is a shame.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
