Ascension's Landscape: Setting Refinements and Story Hooks

ADD TO WISHLIST >

What's this book?

In a remarkable number of cases, the World of Darkness just doesn't make sense. Why haven't vampires mind-controlled every billionaire? Why do nodes go so long without changing hands, even big ones like Stonehenge, if they're so important? What changes if I have more or fewer mages in the world? This book tries to help Storytellers sort out these questions and then find story hooks and chronicle ideas that come from the answers. Ascension's Landscape helps new and experienced Stortytellers think about what their game world should look like and how to get it there.

What's in it?

Sections on:

  • Reasons why the World of Darkness may be dark and how your world of darkness may differ
  • Guidelines on how to explain some odd parts of the World of Darkness like why werewolves and mages never seem to cooperate to fight the Wyrm
  • Over 20 questions to consider when setting up a world of darkness and story hooks and chronicle ideas that come from the answers
  • Three sample settings that show how different game assumptions reshape the world

But I still have questions...

Nice work this! It's the kind of storyteller advice on setting I had expected from M20. That book sadly left it at several multiple choice boxes concerning the major events throughout the Mage game line.
I'll add a review when the site will let me, apparently I'm supposed to wait a day so I can "fully digest it"? No offense, the book was good but it's not Tolstoy or anything.

Love your podcast by the way!

Can this book be used for other Splats as well or just Mage? I love the idea of a book that can help flesh out all aspects of WoD a bit since I'm working on a consistent world for my games.

Most of the book is specifically geared towards mage but say the first 1/3rd talks about the world of darkness in general and asking "so why is the world of darkness dark?"

This is an excellent book! Please make more along other Storyteller lines. Doing this type of book for Mage the Awakening would be awesome.

Thank you, so much! I'd love if you leave a review!

I have little knowledge of Mage the Awakening but should I, this would be one of my first four publications on the STV.

An amazing supplement for anyone interested in the magic world of M20. Great new, fresh perspectives about all the heroes and villains we love and hate, great hooks with enough depth to give Storytellers tools to work great adventures and players character ideas to add those details that really flesh out a character. Again, great job! Can't wait for more of your work

Hoping for a pre-written mage chronicle and some reference sheets this year in between podcast episodes. *Fingers crossed*

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
