Mirrors: Fantasy Folk

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Mirrors: Fantasy Folk is a sourcebook for Chronicles of Darkness: Mirrors.

Chapter Three of Mirrors introduces a number of alternate takes on the Chronicles of Darkness setting. Among these alternate takes are example rules for Fantasy Peoples.

Mirrors: Fantasy Folk expands the list of Fantasy Peoples you might draw from if using any of the material from this shard. Within these pages are eight new playable Folk, ready to be added into your game. The emphasis in these materials is placed on system with the barest brushstrokes of origins, descriptions, and story seeds provided for each type of Folk to allow for maximum customization, ease of use, and utility. Flesh them out as you like, or drop them into your fantasy game as they are, utilizing the mysteries and questions around their backgrounds and origins as story hooks of their own.

Mirrors: Fantasy Folk includes:

  • Clockworks: Artificial beings born from technomagic and alchemy.
  • Elves: A unique take on a fantasy classic.
  • Goblins: Reckless adventurers with a dark sense of humor and a total disregard for the safety of others.
  • Orcs: Feared and misunderstood nomads and explorers who want to live in peace, but are more than capable of war.
  • Ratfolk: Sneaky and adapted to life underground, the ratfolk are excellent assassins, spies, and thieves.
  • Seers: Born with psionic gifts these folk are prone to disturbing visions.
  • Soulforged: Mysterious ephemeramechanical creations who feed on the energies of ghosts, spirits and angels.
  • Undead: Animate corpses trying to find a place for themselves in a world they once left.
  • The InDesign File to allow easy access to community content creators to the text and basic layout of the document.

The zip file is used to compress the files for delivery. In this case, the zip file contains the Indesign files used to create this supplement, in case other Storytellers Vault creators wish to draw from the materials in this book. I would recommend reaching out to customer support if you have concerns about their use.

Could you kindly remove the mention of 'a new ruleset for Dark Heroes' in the blurb? I should have read a bit more carefully since you didn't mention it in the 'what it contains' bit, but I admittedly was confused and thought there were going to be a 2e Dark Hero update, and I could see that leading to confusion for other people too.

These are for nWoD ruleset not for Chronicles of Darkness rules. Check out the full-size preview.

That above is just to inform those who are considering this and use the later 2nd edition rules.

As a personal request I humbly wish Mr. Legge would do similar booklet for the current edition.

Thanks much Panu! I am definitely considering it. In order to do so I will need to convert the material presented in Mirrors to second edition as well, which will take a little time. But if there is enough demand I will certainly shift it to the top of the to do list.

you can add me to the list of folks who would love a second edition update of the material in mirrors, including the Woundgate setting.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
