Blood Sorcery: Rites of Damnation

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Blood Sorcery: Rites of Damnation takes the systems presented in Blood Sorcery: Sacraments and Blasphemies, and updates them for 2nd edition, expanding upon the improvised ritual systems provided in every way. There’s more Themes, more rituals, more options, and more systems defined for it, and of course, more Risk to enacting these dark magics.

It includes:

  • A complete redevelopment of Blood Sorcery, providing them with a “single roll” ritual system that allows for improvised rituals, studied rites, and mastered miracles, providing more options than ever before.
  • New and updated rituals and Merits, including a simplified system for Threnodies; magic that any Kindred can tap into by ritualizing their Disciplines.
  • Three unique forms of Blood Sorcery used by cults, bloodlines, or those seeking power from whatever source they can find.
  • Quick references for vampiric mechanics for tilts and how they interact with the systems within.

This is the most complete guide to blood sorcery ever created. Provides an entirely new comprehensive system for Blood Sorcery which fixes everything wrong with the default one provided in 2nd edition. Lots of spices and additions, even added a new Theme to blood sorcery that was actually missing, in the form of "Guidance". There's also the new concept of Risk, a mechanic that makes Blood Sorcery feel dangerous, like it's supposed to be, and introduces the concept of "High Risk - High Reward". Beautifully written and stylized with thematic artwork to fit the mood. Anyone who's a fan of the Sacraments and Blasphemies book, will find this to be just as good. Contains a list of every ritual, revised to fit this system, as well as some new bloodlines and forms of magic. 5/5 no doubt.

What's the difference between this book and Desecrated Rites?

Good question!

This book uses an open-ended system for sorcery, which replaces the core system in games using it. You determine your effects using Themes which are bought up alongside the main sorcery, and that defines what effects you can improvise, as well as what rituals you can Learn for more benefits.

Desecrated Rites is a book of optional rules and additional merits/devotions/rituals for the sorcery system in the core Vampire: the Requiem 2e book. It's for those that don't want to completely replace the core system, but want more options. It has ways to let you redo the factors involved in the rituals, a ton more rituals, new merits, new devotions, and new forms of sorcery. It ALSO has extra bits to make the brand new stuff compatible with Rites of Damnation if you have both, so it can still be useful to own with RoD.

Hope that helps!

It did help, thanks so much! You might actually want to include that info in their descriptions, it's quite useful for a potential buyer.

Hello!
I couldn't figure out a way to reply to your reply on my review so I'm just posting it as a comment:

Thanks for answering, I probably read too fast and missed the part where it says about the free dots but now I double-checked and realised that there's a quick reference table at the end of the book, that's awesome!

About Risk, I do believe it would be cool if it was revisited at some point because although I see that it doesn't exactly work like a paradox for mages, I feel like one of the biggest advantages a vampire has over mages is that their blood magic can't cause paradox... and maybe risk in general kind of gives that feeling.

If I could make a suggestion, maybe there could be an alternative rule where for every die of risk the character has, it's half an hour more than the ritual will take to be cast instead of they having to roll the risk and face consequences; This way I think it adds weight if the player wants to make a very powerful ritual (Closer...See more

It could even be combined; Like players could reduce the risk (before turning it into a chance die) by increasing the length of their rituals. So a very powerful ritual could take hours and hours to be cast. But the player would know how many hours it would take before starting the ritual, which is still better than what we had in Sacraments and Blasphemies.

There are rules for Gilded Cage here or in some other book?

No Gilded Cage here. I do plan to put out a mini-supplement for this that'll have a lot of the more popular bloodlines' sorceries statted out with these systems though.

Other than the two covenant disciplines, this book covers the Sons of Phobos sorcery, the Sangiovanni (and cattiveria as a Sorcery), and Infernal Sorcery

I'm sorry, I'm new here and I don't really get it, this book you wrote is not official, right? Is it a homebrew for VtR 2e?

If they ever allow Storytellers Vault books to be set up as PoD, I will DEFINITELY be looking to get this and Second Sight: Third Eye set up for it. For the moment, though, it's not an option.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
