Moving Beyond Humanity: A Treatise on Kindred Psychology

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Recommended for people who liked "Sins of the Blood" and "Chaining the Beast".

The Embrace is a profoundly transformative event, similar in magnitude to a life-altering injury or the death of a family member. Beyond the obvious physical changes and the newfound dietary restrictions, almost everything a vampire took for granted in their human life is suddenly gone.

Where can Kindred turn to for stability and meaning? What principles can they follow to ensure that they don’t succumb to ennui or their Beast in the long term? Do such principles even exist?

Written from the unlikely perspective of a Gangrel psychologist, Moving Beyond Humanity provides an in-character examination of the forces shaping Kindred behavior, as well as a compelling justification for why Kindred should abandon Humanity.

Moving Beyond Humanity also includes an out-of-character appendix with a new take on the Humanity System. This alternate system allows players to distinguish between the effects of the animalistic Beast and the breakdown of a Kindred’s moral compass.

Hopefully, both the in-character and out-of-character sections of this book will enable readers to better understand and portray degeneration during play.

Chapter-by-Chapter Summary:

  • (IC) Chapter 1: Discussion of the biological / natural drivers of human and Kindred behavior, including the Beast.
  • (IC) Chapter 2: Why religion and human philosophy both fail to provide adequate direction to Kindred seeking principles by which to exist.
  • (IC) Chapter 3: In the absence of a coherent belief system, Kindred (and humans) can become deeply cynical and nihilistic. This almost always leads to self-destruction.
  • (IC) Chapter 4: Signs that Kindred are ready to embrace a new morality, and speculation on what that form may take.
  • (OOC) Appendix 1: Alternate Humanity System, with explanation and examples.
  • (OOC) Appendix 2: Influences and suggested reading/viewing.

The Tabletop Gaming Club received a promotional copy of this product for review.

Moving Beyond Humanity A Treatise on Kindred Psychology is an in-character perspective on what it means to be a Kindred. The book reads much like a psychology textbook, which is one of the things we think work really well for the product. It covers the questions of Morality, Humanity, Good vs. Evil, and Religion. It delves into the concept of the Kindred being the next evolution of humanity.

The Tabletop Gaming Club took months to dissect this book, and found it filled with tons of interesting information. Its a must have for any Kindred philosopher. We strongly recommend this book to be added to every vampire player's library.

Glad to hear you think it's cool. :)

I'm looking forward to your feedback after you're able to give it a read-through. It's the first writing project of this size I've undertaken, so it's exciting that people are interested.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
