Dark New England is a V20 supplement designed to update information and plotlines from several early edition Vampire: The Masquerade books, including Dark Colony. This book covers the plots and maneuvers of the Kindred of New England and provides in-depth details on specific locations throughout each state. You’ll find details on the Sabbat, Camarilla, Anarchs, and the elusive Descendants of the Three Sisters, three clans of Vampires indigenous to the Northeast US. This book includes all the information you would need to run stories in New England.

Highlights

  • Clan Details and Origin Story for the Descendants of the Three Sisters

  • Information on the Camarilla and Sabbat that make New England their home

  • A chapter on Boston, the Milliner family, and statistics and history for Francis Milliner himself.

  • A new Path of Enlightenment, The Path of the Eternal Song

  • Dozens of characters to help you form and work through the intricate plot hooks we’ve provided

  • Three One-Page Chronicle Jumpstarts to help you start you chronicle!

  • Storytelling Advice and suggestions

*Note, there is some cross-over content between Dark New England and Descendants of the Three Sisters. We chose to include the content in both books because we realize there is an audience with interest in different elements of each part.

Really enjoyed this book, definite 4/5. I agree with Emmanuelle N's comments on the book with one addition - I found it very difficult to read the character sheets in Appendix C: Chronicle Jumpstarts. Those sheets appear to have been created at a much lower resolution making them difficult to read. A few little corrections, and a definite 5.

I'm hoping we can have the character sheet issue fixed by the end of the weekend. That was a linking issue with InDesign that we fixed, I thought we'd updated the file on here already with that fix.

So I cannot post a review for some reason but I've given this a long read and I'd like to give my thoughts.

I do think it's worth the investment, in terms of documentation and sources it's well made and there's lots to consider. Great ideas to make our own WoD version of the region, and thoughtfully made so I fully respect that. The sources and materials given are quality and quantity, and are honestly great and inspire even me to start a story in the region (which tbh doesn't appeal much to my sensitivities). So this is a great positive and very telling of the amazing quality of the book.
There are a few layout issues (nothing too hard on the eyes), the art choices are well thought of, the order of the chapters is relevant. I would have put them another order, or even separate smaller books as part of one purchase ; Especially when it comes to the native tribes (imho).

I would have LOVED a table on contents compatible with PDF bookmarks.
I would have also loved maps (not...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
