Madison by Night

ADD TO WISHLIST >

"It is said that Madison is 94 square miles surrounded by reality. Honestly, though, the reality out there isn't much better than what we have in here."

-- Chopper, Nosferatu and Keeper of Information for the Baron of Madison

Part supply depot, part library, and part fast-food joint, Madison is a one-stop shop for Anarchs looking to take over a piece of ground to call their own.

With a small permanent population of Kindred, Madison is easy to overlook but for one thing: they supply or directly support over half of the Anarch insurgencies on the North American continent.

Madison by Night includes:
  • A brief history of Madison, Wisconsin, from the early days of European immigrants and the arrival of the first Kindred to the Anarch take-over in the 1960s.
  • A listing of some of the more important Kindred-related sites in the Madison area
  • An overview of the Anarch Kindred who currently call Madison home.

Other titles by Bill Bodden:

Consumed (An adventure for Dungeons & Dragons 5E in the Scarred Lands setting)

Desert of Lost Relics (An adventure for Dungeons & Dragons 5E in the Scarred Lands setting)

A bit of errata..1848 Wisconsin became a state... Madison did not become a state.
Also, a long ley line ...Ironwood MI to Rib Mountain (Garou) to Plainfield Cemetery, Ed Gein's grave, to Portage (chantry) to Madison.

As a player of the Madison by Night LARP in the 90's and one of the largest at the time, I am going to have to get this and read it

Do you mind if I make Elaine Chan the sire of someone in San Francisco (this supplement will come out sometime next year)?

Great setting book. If you were to update the book later, I would love to see all characters statted out, and maybe an adventure to kick things into action. There are some typos here and there, but good writing all over.

One there quick note. Its "77 square miles surrounded by reality" or did you change the number to make it more World of Darkness?

From Wikipedia:

Nicknames
Over the years, Madison has acquired nicknames and slogans that include:

Mad City
Madtown
The Berkeley of the Midwest
77 square miles surrounded by reality
Four Lakes City
People's Republic of Madison

Couldnt find anything on a google search for "94 square miles surrounded by reality"

94 square miles is the current official size of the city of Madison. Saw no reason to NOT update the old saying to keep it accurate. :)

Thanks for the reply,

That makes allot of sense and really like what you did with Madison in your book. I think I will wait until Mage is released on the ST Vault to make my own Madison city book as I have always seen Mage as the dominating force in Madison. In the mean time I plan to write a module/example of play book and will be putting your book in the suggested reading section. I will be focusing mostly on Chicago 1st edition based in 1993. So will likely have mentions of Milwaukee and Madison even if I don't go there in the story.

Thanks Joshua! I wasn't specifically allowed to refer to Mages or Werewolves nor include them, so I referred to them a bit more obliquely, leaving the door open to tie the books together -- directly or indirectly -- when the other settings go online in the Storytellers Vault. I look forward to seeing what you do with Madison for Mage...

Going to have to by this once I get home. I was also planning on making a Madison by Night book. I currently run Events at Gen Con for Madison. Really looking forward to what you did with the city!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
